I'm afraid I'm in the same exact position as you :-/

Worst case scenario: we push it to unstable and see what happens, if
it starts getting lots of bugs then we forward them to upstream, and
if there is no feedback, we remove it.

But of course,if someone more knowledgeable can help us,the better.
