I guess any of them works to reproduce the problem,

(Somewhere in libarchive/archive_read_format_support_iso9660.c is all I can
say for now, but I guess that doesn't help you...)

unless explicitly instructed to use something, this should be the order
in which it tries to detect and use the extensions:
joliet, rockridge, iso/ecma...
Example, to skip any joliet metadata use:
bsdtar --options !joliet ...
