Other media or other drive, i fear.

Neither the burn program nor the operating system are at fault.
It is simply that the drive answers any attempt to start writing
by an error message. We have tried both approaches which are
possible with DVD+R (DL or not makes no difference in the specs).

The medium probably does not experience any change during the
attempt. At least the drive tells so. If you have access to
other drives, then it would be interesting to learn their
opinion about the medium state: "blank", "appendable" or "closed".
I guess that Windows burn programs report the state with similar
terms.
