The behaviour seems to be similar in 0.5.4 and 0.6.0.

Some additional informations about this bug :

At the end of the VM creation wizard, when I click on "Terminate" the optical
media starts spinning up in the drive and I get the timeout error.
- If I wait the optical media stops spinning up in the drive and click again
on "Terminate" then it works.
- If I eject the optical media and reinsert it in the drive, I have to go back
in the wizard to re-select the optical media in the drop-list. Now if I click
on "Terminate" the optical media starts spinning up in the drive and I get
the timeout error. But if I wait the optical media stops spinning up in the
drive and click again on "Terminate" then it works.

Same thing with an already created VM booting on an optical drive. If I start
the VM, the optical media starts spinning up in the drive and I get the
timeout error. If I wait the optical media stops spinning up in the drive and
I try again to start the VM then it works. If I eject and reinsert the
optical media I have to try to start the VM twice too. If I try to start the
VM when I just inserted the optical media (then when the media is still
spinning up in the drive), it works.

If I initiate the optical media spin up with a "dd if=/dev/scd0 of=/dev/zero"
for example I have no problem.
