[Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#578173: xen samples.

It's becoming likely that the problem is to do with xen paravirt vs hvm. Here a a few more samples.
A guest, created on another system. The config file copied to /etc/xen and adjusted to this lenny.

....................................................

virsh # define /etc/xen/Simply-Mepis.xml
Domain SimplyMepis defined from /etc/xen/Simply-Mepis.xml

virsh # create /etc/xen/Simply-Mepis.xml
Domain SimplyMepis created from /etc/xen/Simply-Mepis.xml

virsh # list
 Id Name State
----------------------------------
  0 Domain-0 running
  2 lenny01 idle
  6 SimplyMepis no state

virsh # vncdisplay SimplyMepis

virsh # console SimplyMepis
No console available for domain

idella at debian:~$ sudo xm console SimplyMepis
xenconsole: Could not read tty from store: No such file or directory

..............................

This guest came up perfectly well on the other system. On this one, it produces the bug. Console not active for guest.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that this xenconsole error is related to hvm.

Let's take a paravirt from the other system, lenny-net.xml Make it iin virsh as above, and

.........See Screenshot-4.png and Screenshot-5.png..............................

virsh #console lenny-net

.......................
......................
Starting periodic command scheduler: crond.

Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 lenny-net hvc0

lenny-net login:
Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 lenny-net hvc0

lenny-net login:

..........................................

It made it to console login. Screenshot-4.png shows it does connect to vnc, then it blanks out when it gets to login.
virsh shows it can get to the console. xm would di the same. It's a minimal net install, I'm sure graphical display isn't installed,
so that's a xen good result.

Now here is just the right example. Taken from the xen live cd. There's a package that takes a lenny install, then boots it up in paravirt OR hvm, from rtwo different scripys provided in the cd. I wish I had looked at this ages ago, it explains much.
I'm currentl installing it from the provided script, but it's basically a clone of the above guest.

We have xm-debian-curses.cfg and xm-debian-vfb.cfg. The first

idella at debian:~$ xm create -c /etc/xen/xm-debian-curses.cfg

..............................
.............................
.............................
Starting internet superserver: inetd.
Starting Samba daemons: nmbd smbd.
Not starting S.M.A.R.T. daemon smartd, disabled via /etc/default/smartmontools (warning).
Starting the Winbind daemon: winbind.
Starting DHCP D-Bus daemon: dhcdbd.
Starting Hardware abstraction layer: hald.
Starting network connection manager: NetworkManager.
Starting network events dispatcher: NetworkManagerDispatcher.
Starting GNOME Display Manager: gdm.
Starting System Tools Backends: system-tools-backends.
Starting Netatalk services (this will take a while): [ 15.516007] NET: Registered protocol family 5
eth0: disabled.
atalkd: zero interfaces, exiting.
Starting anac(h)ronistic cron: anacron.
Starting deferred execution scheduler: atd.
Starting periodic command scheduler: crond.

Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 lenny-net hvc0

lenny-net login:

Makes it all the way to login.

and

idella at debian:~$ sudo xm create /etc/xen/xm-debian-vfb.cfg
Using config file "/etc/xen/xm-debian-vfb.cfg".
Started domain lenny0s
idella at debian:~$

  .................See Screenshot-6.png...................
.................. See

Makes it all the way to a blue screen, which is I assume an incomplete, minimal net lenny install.

libvirt makes a strong appearance in syslog this time. I've included the syslog. Today is 22nd, and
all its content represents this single session today while all these demos were taking place.

That outlines how xen is performing in a number of differeny angles.

If you can't figure it from here, then it's too intricate and tricky.

I hope this gets through to debian bugs, The last two got lost.
