That's what Lars dug out:

Supported machines are:
pc Standard PC (alias of pc-0.12)
pc-0.12 Standard PC (default)
pc-0.11 Standard PC, qemu 0.11
pc-0.10 Standard PC, qemu 0.10
isapc ISA-only PC

It happened because virtinst whas passing was requesting a machine id
like -M pc-1.1 . I agree that it's not a libvirt bug buy itself but the
IMHO the best work around to keep users out of trouble when also using a
newer virt-manager/virtinst. I'll add a more prominent note to the next
upload.
