Hello Guido, Michael,

It's certainly not ideal, but PK 105 works fine and there's not that
much going on wrt. upstream development either.

One potential solution that I see is to put back support for .pkla
files upstream, and make building the JS backend optional. Then we
could keep up with newer upstream releases/fixes again. But so far
this hasn't happened mostly because there hasn't been a pressing need
to do so.

Other than that, I certainly don't have magic veto powers on this,
especially not in Debian :-) This is just my opinion (and the opinion
of our security team, FWIW). So if Joss/Michael/etc. think it'd be
good to move to the JS based backend, then please go ahead. But NB
that this will break existing customized installs as AFAIK the old
.pkla backend went away completely. It would be nice if at least both
were available, so that we keep backwards compat and admins could
continue to use the simpler .pkla files (which are much harder to
accidentally get wrong, and it's possible to audit them
automatically as they are declarative).

Martin
