As data point: osinfo-db, which contains the various OSes virt-manager
(and thus virt-install too) knows about, added a "debiantesting" OS
some years ago with commit 9440d0a82a0eb9a80b66ca2b420c805f8ffe6234 [1].
It is available in Debian since version 0.20160728+git20161020-1.
IMHO testing and unstable are generally close enough w.r.t features
supported, so using "debiantesting" as ID for Debian unstable VMs
should be good enough. It will not allow to directly install unstable
though.
