Ah. Is upstream just too busy / not interested / ?!?, or is there a
deeper problem?

The reason I'm asking: the wireguard project has some code that needs to
be emscriptened. Right now the resulting JS is included in the git
archive, that's not a sustainable solution, much less in a Debian context.

While they do have .deb packages, they're not quite ready to upload the
result to Debian proper, so there's some time to fix this properly.

Certainly. The problem, alas, is the negative amount of time available
to do so.
