Thanks!  BTW, there's another thing that bugs me about the Debian versioning vs 
upstream.  What's that 8.18 version?  Upstream is 0.18.  Has there been some 
jump in any of the versioning schemes?

Shouldn't this be solved in Debian by using an epoch, and synchronizing with the 
upstream 0.18 as 1:0.18?
