I had a look at your patch and I propose another MR, based on yours:

This updated MR takes into account other distros that are affected (ie.
Kali and, likely, Devuan). It also removes the logic to get the
codename, as we already have this information in the $release variable.

@elbrus: I believe the fix doesn't need to apply to trixie, but only to
forky onward. Please tell me if I'm mistaken.
