Looking at the Xfce panel code suggests that the panel tries to guess
the number of icons from the tray applet width/height ratio.
This would suggest that the tray applet is fixed and cannot be displayed
in a vertical panel. Indeed, setting the panel to vertical does not show
the uim icons.
