I just tested pcmanfm package from debian. I often use pcmanfm and USB 
stick, I never saw this bug (Yes, I even was in 4 folders deep in mount 
point when unmounted it). Test it with our package (it's fresh now) and 
recheck your debian/patches?

P.S. if pcmanfm window just disappears when unmount it's not a bug(!!!).
