While I should've perhaps posted my other problem in a new thread, I 
non-the-less confirm the bug (for amd64 architecture).


After executing the command, there is no lxpanel among running 
processes. strace reveals this (in its last 3 lines):

     read(3, 0x1f2b514, 4096)                = -1 EAGAIN (Resource 
temporarily     unavailable)
     close(3)                                = 0
     exit_group(0)                           = ?

The first line of the three is repeated a few times, obviously retrying 
didn't help. I can see file descriptor 3 here:

     connect(3, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=@"/tmp/.X11-unix/X0"}, 20) = 0
