Ouch. Well as the english would say, I have egg on my face.
I apologize, I assumed lxpanel run... ran the panel daemon. In 
retrospect, the unconventional look of it, and the fact that it ran when 
started on its own did seem weird. I just searched for similar bugs. I 
guess I should my laziness soon and report the exact/actual bug.
