Package: lxde
Version: 10
The file manager from the LXDE desktop environment, PCManFM, nicely
supports the user directories Desktop, Documents, Download, Music,
Pictures, Public, Templates and Videos.
The attached screen shot pcmanfm-with-user-directories.png shows, that
all these directories are displayed with their custom icons, if the icon
set supports them. Here, the GNOME icon theme from the directory
/usr/share/icons/gnome is used.
The standard LXDE icon theme /usr/share/icons/nuoveXT2 does NOT contain
these custom icons, which is a bit disappointing.
The bookmarks file ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks is surely supported as
well, and the user directories are added to the sidebar and the
bookmarks menu.
(see screenshot pcmanfm-with-bookmarks-menu.png)
All this also works with localized directories, e.g. German as shown in
the screenshots. (The directory Desktop is not localized, because
PCManFM was started first, before creating the user directories and the
configuration files ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs and user-dirs.locale.)
But this depends on the packages xdg-user-dirs and xdg-user-dirs-gtk,
which are not installed by default, even if the task-lxde-desktop is
installed with all its recommended packages.
Thus, I would suggest, that the package lxde should depend on (or
recommend) the package xdg-user-dirs-gtk, which in turn depends on
xdg-user-dirs.
This would be the same approach as used for Cinnamon: The package
cinnamon-desktop-environment also depends on xdg-user-dirs-gtk.
You might also consider replacing the lxde-icon-theme with a more
complete theme. I like the variations of gnome-colors a lot. The blue
gnome-brave-icon-theme works well with the Clearlooks theme for GTK2 and
the window manager, and there is also a clearlooks-phenix-theme for GTK3.
(see screenshot gnome-brave-icons-and-clearlooks.png)
This would be a "traditional OK" theme, as it is called in the MATE desktop.
Furthermore, I like to have the "num lock" key enabled by default. The
display manager LightDM does not support this. Therefore, lxde should
also recommend the package numlockx.
Regards,
Hartmut Buhrmester
