I'm not sure if it's safe to do that. At least beta2 had some potential to
eat your data if I remember correctly.

I tried beta3 here and it seems to work fine so far but I've not done serious
work with it.

Well that's exactly what happens. The current packaging doesn't allow a parallel
installation of 1.5 and 1.6. The way back from 1.6 to 1.5 is very painfull
because you've to export all your documents you saved with 1.6 back to 1.5
format. Ok that's nothing new for the experienced user because this happens
during every new mayor LyX release but you should remember that when upgrading.

My personal test build is avaible from http://sven.stormbind.net/debian/lyx16/
so if you really dare to play with it feel free to use it but don't try to
blame me if it eats your data and your kitten.

So I'm away for the weekend (ok I should've net access at the destination) so
feel free to convince Per to upload it. ;)
