This has not been the case since at least 2006, likely much longer.

I understand the suggestion, but it's not like I could just undo some
recent change. Since mailman 2 packaging is only in maintenance mode I
don't see it as very opportune to be changing this part of the packaging
which has been working this way for over 12 years.
