I have looked at this issue once more this morning.

I looked at the debdiffs of two emacs24 versions:

   $ debdiff emacs24_24.3%2B1-5.dsc emacs24_24.4%2B1-5.dsc

There obviously have been several changes in emacs concerning  
Xresources. I am unfortunately not an emacs24 expert at all, so I have  
no clue how to hunt this issue down myself. Neither do I have a  
personal need for this to be fixed (not an emacs24) user.

If noone jumps, I don't see a chance for this issue to get fixed any  
time soon.
