The formatted patch files 0001-*.patch ... 0008-*.patch can be removed  
from the file system. You don't add them to the git project. And you  
don't have to fear loss of Git information. Those files are an (old)  
export of what you have/had in Git.

I seems save to remove those files and do a "git push". You can also  
do "git push" and remove the .patch files later.
