Package: mate-desktop-environment-extras
Version: 1.8.0+7~bpo70+1
Severity: important

After a plain Debian 7 install, installing mate-desktop-environment-extras doesn' t result in a fully-functional Mate environment.

Steps to reproduce:
- Install Debian 7 from debian-7.6.0-amd64-netinst.iso
- Leave Debian Desktop out in dselect choices during install
- Add Debian Backports to source, update repositories
- Update Kernel from Debian Backports
- Reboot, expecting graphical environment to start

Instead, a text login prompt appears.

I followed instructions from wiki.mate-desktop.org/download.
