I'm also running i3. Since this afternoon systemd as init, but when I
reported the bug, systemd was installed (to provide e.g. systemd-logind)
but not running as init.  

I don't know what else to tell you. The system is up to date with Jessie
as of this morning. I don't have any other mate components installed.
