Thank you for updating the bug-report with your latest findings. There are a
couple of things at issue here and they have been discussed and reported
upstream.(This was done at the same time the bug was originally reported).
The inhibit applet does not operate the 'display sleep' portion of
the mate-power-manager code due to an issue with mate-settings-daemon.
Upstream is aware of the issue and upstream is actively seeking resolution.
Those fixes will not make jessie (it is frozen).
In the meantime there is a work-around that is easily done by "disabling the
screen-saver(s)" and setting the mate-power-manager "Display" setting to
'Never'... of course changing them back when the movie/or other task is
completed.
