Caja should definitely have gvfs-backends in Recommends: field.
However, I am not sure if we can get this into jessie. I just prepared
an upload for a related bug fix in mate-desktop-environment (#776698,
see ). I will try to get a dependency for
mate-desktop-environemt-core into jessie that adds gvfs-backends to
If the fix for #776698 gets accepted by the Debian release team, I
think this issue will be satisfyingly solved for jessie.
After the freeze, we should add gvfs-backends to Recommends: field for
Caja, so leaving this bug open and not merging it into #776698
