I have been installing two laptops with vanilla mate + jessie, and found more similar issues. I
don't know if it's worth opening new threads for each.

For example, I did install vim and now plain text files are being opened with vim (!) instead of
pluma. jpgs are opened with iceweasel instead of eom ...
