Could you install a Debian jessie on the same hardware (on some other  
hard drive, but same graphics card) and check if the issue is still  
present in jessie (I see you are using wheezy-backports).

If I don't hear back from you withing the next ten days, I will  
consider this issue solved in jessie (as I don't see it here on my  
installations).

Please also describe what you change exactly. The complete theme? Or  
do you customize parts of the same? Which theme is active? Which theme  
are you trying to switch to? Please do the same tests on a fresh  
Debian jessie installation.
