Thanks for the response. If there's anything I can do to help - I have
many years software development experience, mostly C/C++.

I used to rebuild/package Enigmail for Ubuntu during one of the
periods that it was left behind (there was no AMD64 build at the time).
I've been running Debian as my preferred distribution since Potato -
with a couple of forays into Ubuntu.

I've been using Iceape, or previous variants thereof, since it was
Netscape Communicator (I remember applying the fortify run-time
patches to beef up ssl) - my first archived e-mail purports to come
from Marc Andreessen, welcoming me to Netscape Communicator.
