It's not exactly a crash, as mpd terminates on purpose, but I think you
may be encountering a bug there.

Can you confirm that in mpd's configuration file, you have "user" set
but "group" not set/commented out? 

And can you also check that mpd starts up ok if you comment out both the
"user" and the "group" directive, or leave "user" and set "group" to
your user's primary group (likely the same as your username)?
