do you have a suggestion where exactly this should be mentioned, and
perhaps even suggest a wording?

The $http_proxy envvar is a feature of curl completely independent from
mpd, and hence duely described in curl's manpage. I suppose it was once
set on purpose and with knowledge of its effects, but fail to imagine
why it should then be improper for mpd to honour; and as you didn't just
set curl proxy variables in mpd's config, mentioning it there probably
wouldn't have helped, no?
