[Pkg-mpd-maintainers] Old libmpdclient version in current MPD package (Unstable)

Hi

I'm developing an MPD client, and have come across a potential issue
with 0.21.5-x from Unstable.

The current (and previous) package is compiled using libmpdclient-dev
v2-11 (from here
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=mpd&arch=amd64&ver=0.21.4-1%2Bb1&stamp=1547037223&raw=0).

Using such an old version of library precludes use of various facilities
of MPD via a satellite configuration - such as regular expressions,
assorted count commands, and so on. Is there any particular reason for
this?

I notice that the BSD and Hurd libraries are stuck at 2.11 - is this why
the i386/amd64/etc. MPD package is compiled against 2.11?

It would make MPD much more usable if it could be compiled against the
most current version of the library (v2.16 at the moment), or at least
the version supplied in the Unstable distribution.

Would it be possible to compile future MPD packages with the newest
library?

Thanks

v
