Mmm, that's better: now I get 

€ pkg-config libavcodec --libs
-lavcodec -ltheora -lvorbisenc -lraw1394 -lavutil -lvorbis -lm -logg  

because libavcodec.pc includes

Requires: ogg >= 1.1 theora vorbis vorbisenc libraw1394 libavutil = 49.3.0

But shouldn't these (except libavutil) rather be in Requires.private?
When looking and the libavcodec header files, I can't find references to
these libraries, so it should be fine.
