ffmpeg: release fast, release often

Dear MM-Team,

I'd like to ask the ffmpeg-maintainers about the future plans for this 
package.
The source code in the archive is more than a half year old [1], the 
last upload has been two months ago and there ist still this 
patent-issue concerning MPEG2 video encoding (#439897).
How are you/we going to deal with these issues?

[1] It's shame that upstream does not release and encourage static 
linking, but maybe at least Debian as a distributor should update 
packages on a regular basis, e.g. (at least) twice a year, or similar.
