VLC seems to be built without divx or xvid support

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.h-1

When I try to open a divx or xvid movie with vlc there is no video output.
Here the messages from vlc :

main error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

And, when I use "vlc --list" to know what functionalities have been built in
vlc, most popular codecs are not in this list.

I am using Debian testing, kernel 2.6.25-2-686
