Bug#440216: any work on this (or on ffmpeg)

Having read the statements in the "blocking" bugs and the issue with
mpeg encoding capabilities in ffmpeg (free).

Still annoying: I have to "hold" an old (insecure) vlc version in
aptitude to be able to stream videos to my dbox (which needs
mpeg2-stream).
This since end of last year (2007) :( - with several unwanted updates
and manual downgrades again.

Is there no chance to get a fully functional version of vlc/ffmpeg from
the non-free repository?

Download and compiling a patched, own version isn't really a solution
when there's comfortable way to do it via aptitude, insn't it?!

Please give us an update

Thanks
Peter
