 Are you confident with this?  The problem is that autogenerated files
 such as Makefile.in aren't in the upstream history, these are only in
 the released tarballs; this means that the tree you manipulate is
 different from the extracted Debian source package made from upstream
 tarball + diff.

 I find it much clearer to import tarballs in the git tree.
