Bug#487922: your package seems to use ffmpeg-config

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.e
Severity: minor
Dear maintainer,
this bug is reported against your package, because it seems to use
ffmpeg-config.
Ffmpeg-config is a Debian-specific script/hack that is used to
determine the CFLAGS and LDFLAGS that are needed to build against
ffmpeg's libraries. However, since ffmpeg now ships .pc files for its
libraries - even the version in etch does this - we (both the Debian
ffmpeg maintainers and ffmpeg upstream) want to get rid of this tool.
The changes needed for your package should be mostly trivial,
exchanging ffmpeg-config calls with the appropriate pkg-config calls
and adding pkg-config to the Build-Depends..
We are going to remove ffmpeg-config in the next upload of the ffmpeg
package (0.svn20080206-9), so your package might FTBFS if it relies on
ffmpeg-config and has not been patches until then.
If OTOH your package is already prepared to build against ffmpeg
without ffmpeg-config (i.e. using pkg-config), this must have slipped
through my fingers and I am sorry I have bothered you. Please ignore
and close this bug report then.
Thank you for your attention!
Cheers,
Fabian Greffrath
(on behalf of the Debian ffmpeg maintainers, i.e. pkg-multimedia).
