Hello,

Thank you for investigating. I don't have access to a mips so it makes
thing hard to debug.


> debian-mips:~/vlc-0.8.6.h# ./vlc --reset-plugins-cache -l -I rc vlc:quit

Could you add -vvv and retry ?
Could you also try with ffmpeg-dbg installed ?
Could you try to build vlc-0.8.6.h-1 (the one in lenny)?
Do you get the same if you don't run it as root ?
