I guess I know what it is. At least I experience the same with other
packages:

$ git-buildpackage
[..]
fatal: Not a valid object name upstream/0.116.3
jack-audio-connection-kit_0.116.3.orig.tar.gz does not exist, creating
from 'upstream'
fatal: Not a valid object name upstream

I have to say git-buildpackage --git-upstream-branch=origin/upstream to
make it work. Don't know if this behaviour has changed, but iirc, I have
not seen it until recently.

I fixed most of the lintian warnings, dropped QT3 a.s.o. I now consider
the package to be ready for upload. Only exception:

E: libffado0: sharedobject-in-library-directory-missing-soname
usr/lib/libffado.so.0.0.0

This is a known upstream issue:

   http://subversion.ffado.org/index.fcgi/ticket/188

Since libffado is only used by its own tools and jackd, the whole SONAME
question is somewhat academic, at least in the current state. (FFADO is
still heading towards its first official release).

Personally speaking, I'd be fine ignoring this lintian error, but feel
free to advice me how to handle it correctly. Best would be to solve it
upstream.

Cheerio
