I'm starting to review whysynth, but stopped because there's no
upstream branch committed in the repository.

Assuming that you've imported a .dsc with git-import-dsc, if you run
the "git branch" command you should see something like:

[ free at orfeo:]~/git/idjc $ git branch
* master
  upstream

Note the upstream branch. If so, you just need to push that branch to
the Alioth git repository with:

git push alioth upstream
