o_O Indeed!

Non-PIC in shared libraries is not a policy exception [BTW: Who grants 
a policy exception? You?!], it is a bug, even on i386. The only reason 
why we don't touch it is that we don't want to divert from upstream 
and leave it up to them to fix it. Upstream is very sensitive about 
Debian modifying their code, you know?

I do also *strongly recommend* that you communicate your proposed 
changes on the list *before* you apply them - starting from now. Don't 
get me wrong, we can always use a helping hand but we have no use for 
people who fail to communicate.

I have raised my concerns on this mailing list on July 6th and only 
got a response from Reinhard. Then, on July 9th I wrote another mail 
to the list directly addressed at you, asking you for objections 
against the removal.

Anyway, even if you missed this last mail, I think it should be good 
behaviour to contact a person before reverting a commit - you did it 
silently only 3 hours after my commit without any comment on the list...
