thanks for your reply.
I worked on this NMU due to mppenc being a Recommends: of pacpl, as you
already stated, but I'm not actually interested in maintaining it.
The package didn't receive updates since the version in stable (2007-09), but
on the other hand its popcon is still slowly increasing, so I guess we can
avoid removal from the archive.
I'd propose my NMU as a short-term solution, or maybe poking someone on
pkg-multimedia team (CCing) for a long-term one (as a side note, libmpc is
currently maintained under their umbrella).
