the correct fix is to fix the debian packages.

I cannot recommend that repository.

btw, we are currently working on getting the lame package in main. once
it is there, I'll enable mp3 support

I don't follow. I'd need example files and full output to comment on
that. BTW, best file the bug upstream: http://ffmpeg.org/bugreports.html

I think this was recently fixed upstream, not sure if it made it for
0.6, but will definitly be fixed in 0.7
