Bug#607187: smplayer: (seemingly) randomly fails to download subtitles

smplayer seems to randomly fails to download subtitles. Here comes the strace of a run where I start smplayer, ask once to download a subtitle, it goes around 90% then fails, ask a second time then it goes ok.
Sometimes, you have to try the download 8 or 9 times to get it done.

Someone on the upstream tracker http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3062000&group_id=185512&atid=913573 gave some leads.

(Upstream developers tagged this bug as "work for me" even while reporter can still reproduce it. Well, I can reproduce it too, on several machines running Debian GNU/Linux (or even running Ubuntu) but not with MS Windows)
