Should be ok: libraw1394-11 2.0.5-1 installed

I am aware of that - and misconfiguration there leads to other error.  
But thanks for pointing it out anyway!

I started with relying on defaults - setting them higher was out of 
desparation, after noticing some other advice saying that this 
particular error could be due to too _low_ values for these.

Are you suggesting to shoot in the dark for magic combinations here, and 
that _both_ too low and too high values lead to same error messages?

Thanks for mentioning.  I did powercycle between some of the attempts 
but not all - will do it consistently from now on (although I suspect 
that the box hanging leads to other errors, at least they did in the 
past with freebob).
