Not so strange: I wrote it after you'd changed to plus and released :-)

Plus and tilde are both modern - but where tilde means "just below" then
plus means "just above.
So for the general case: no, I still recommend using tilde instead.
But did you read my last part (below what you woted above)? What you
did is perfect for the specific case of replacing an already released
upstream version, and it is "correct" also for later releases but not
perfect.
So what I recommend for this specific case - and which is not too late -
is to add a comment at the place(s) where you added that plus about then
switching from the "correct" plus the the more elegant tilde.
Does that make sense?
