Bug#582508: mplayer: DVD menu support not available

According to mplayer news [1] it supports new way to play DVDs - mplayer dvdnav://. As per my understanding this means display of DVD menu. But even though Debian's mplayer package is created from a recent snapshot this functionality is not available.

Following error is seen when trying to use uri dvdnav://

It seems that mplayer is not built with dvdnav support (missing build-dep libdvdnav-dev). I did a local build with libdvdnav-dev added as build-dep and resulting mplayer package shows DVD menu.
It will be great if this functionality was added in Debian package.
