JFTR: I had no problems with stock Debian kernels until 2.6.39, but at
least 2.6.39-1-pae has caused xruns. I then decided to revert to
manually compiled vanilla kernels with CONFIG_PREEMPT.
I don't think maintaining such a kernel is an unsolvable task: change
a single (or maybe three) config setting and recompile.
Maybe filing a wishlist bug report against the kernel package mentioning
"please set CONFIG_PREEMPT" could work. ;)
Cheers
