Bug#646236: [libmp4v2-dev] FTBFS for armhf: offset out of range

Package: libmp4v2-dev
Version: 1.9.1+svn479~dfsg0-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

the libmp4v2 package fails to build from source on armhf (armel with
hard-float).
Here is a build log:
http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=mp4v2&arch=armhf&ver=1.9.1%2Bsvn479~dfsg0-2&stamp=1319080649
The crucial lines are:

 libtool: compile:  g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I./include -I./include -I. -I. -Wall -Wformat -g -O2 -fvisibility=hidden -c src/bmff/typebmff.cpp  -fPIC -DPIC -o src/bmff/.libs/typebmff.o
 /tmp/ccshNagF.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/ccshNagF.s:6419: Error: offset out of range
/tmp/ccshNagF.s:8635: Error: offset out of range

Building is successful with optimization disabled.
Thus adding the "--disable-optimize" parameter to the "configure" line in
debian/rules fixes the problem on that platform. But this is surely not the
perfect solution.

btw: CXXFLAGS given in debian/rules (specifically "-Ox") is ignored
due to configure, I guess.

thanks for the package!

cheers,
Lars
