Package: volti
Version: 0.2.3-4
Severity: normal
File: /usr/lib/volti/volti/alsactrl.py
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

volti crashes with the following message during startup:

[alsactrl.py:__init__:41] can't open Master control for card NVidia, trying to
select first available mixer channel

[alsactrl.py:__init__:49] can't open first available control for card NVidia
error: list index out of range

I used to use successfully volti until I installed Nvidia drivers and started
experimenting with something called vdpau.
The effect was that it created an extra audio device but without any mixer
controls (only checkboxes are available on alsamixer).
I suppose alsactrl.py is not expecting such an empty (bogus?) device without
any controls and thus crashes.
Note, that I am not trying to use Nvidia sound -- it just gets in the way and
crashes volti.

I would expect volti to be more robust against such configurations and perhaps
simply ignore the devices that it cannot use.

Thanks,
Marius
