Avidemux is being worked on here:

xmbc is being worked on here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=469397

Help is more than welcome on both packages.

The version in experimental really should be new enough. Heck, it hasn't
been even officially released yet.
